Jerry and Sue McLain at Anchorage

The familiar gray glacial water flows to the ocean from from Anchorage.  The mud flats in the once-navigable waterway are as light as quicksand.  An unsuspecting person who tries wading will soon find himself stuck fast in the mud.  If he tries to step out of the muck, he will sink even deeper and need to be rescued.

Right:  Mud flats in the river, seen through the window of the bus.
