Jerry and Sue McLain at Fairbanks

The native Athabascan Indians built fish traps to catch salmon.   Baskets in the revolving wheel would scoop up the fish and dump them into a box.  The fish then would be gutted and hung to dry on racks.

Right: A fish trap at Chena Fish Camp.
Inset:  Salmon drying in the sun.
