Jerry and Sue McLain at Juneau

When Alaska became a state in 1959, Juneau was made its capital.  Local, state, and federal governments employ half the city's workers, while tourism, commercial fishing, retail services and mining employ the rest.
It rained on the glacier in the morning, and it rained all afternoon in the city.  We learned this constant drizzle was not unusual, for we were in the Tongass National Forest, a temperate rainforest.
